My wife and I always fought over who left the toilet paper roll on the holder, empty. I don't know what it was, but was just a pain, (and somewhat unsanitary too), to fiddle with the spring loaded holder to put in a new roll. This design allows you to just swing the arm open, (while holding the toilet paper rolls), and just slip the new roll onto the holder without touching any of the metal pieceson the holder. You wouldn't think it's a big deal, but we've had it for now about three months and there's always toilet paper on the holder. (Nobody minds replacing the rolls anymore)Aside from the design, we got this to try to match the finish and style of some very high end and much more expensive bathroom fixtures for our newly remodeled bathroom. Looks-wise, this fit right in. Materials-wise, it's very solid and is very well made and the movable operational parts feel very solid, not flimsy at all. It's a great product and we're really happy we found it.I'm thinking of putting this in all of our bathrooms.
